RE: Charging for pets

One thing I've always thought about and resent a little is that when pet owners leave the RV for a long period, such as for a workamping job, they have to leave the AC on which I seldom do as a non-pet owner. Therefore, more electricity is used which I presumably share in the cost and it certainly cost the campground owner more. Also, no doubt, the campground owner has to clean up some as pet owners do not always. Actually, you probably do not share in the cost of others electricity. If they are workkamping and probably on a meter they pay their own electric. Other than that, I have no problem with anyone using the electricity they require.... they have paid for it in the rate. That would liken to going to a motel and not using the sheets because the cost to launder is built into the price of the room.

RE: Charging for pets

Hi, In fact, do people even claim an indoor cat as a pet? Suzanne http://campingandtravels.blogspot.com Actually ours doesn't even consider she's a cat, so we don't dare. We have never been charged, but we have been put in the pet section on several occasions. I guess they have to adhere to the rules no matter what the pet, as sure enough some busybody would see them in the window and complain. As far as charging for an indoor pet that doesn't go outdoors, I attribute that to campground greed.

RE: Smoking with kids in the car a $100 fine in California!

The government will protect us and keep us safe. I'm surprised they haven't outlawed chewing tobacco and spitting out the car window. Yet. If you end up with a car to spit out the window :B I like the idea of banning smoking, but wow, California???? who legalizes smoking/growing marijuana and they are so liberal.... this is like Big Brother. I guess this new Civilian Police State will be the watchdogs. And to think, everyone was worried about Homeland Security. Forget criminals and people entering this Country illegally, let's go after that guy smoking in his car. Gotta luv it.

RE: What or who do you blame for the financial crisis?

Hitler came to power in large part because of his great oratorical ability. I sure wish more Americans would have studied a bit of history! Barney :h I think you're asking way too much. How could you expect them to interrupt their studies on Dancing With the Stars, Ellen Degeners Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears and drinking Kook-Ade to actually attempt to learn anything substantive. It's just so much easier to let the media tell them what to think, who to vote for and where their priorities should be. :B

RE: What or who do you blame for the financial crisis?

To those who say it the fault of those who buy things they can't afford.... that's silly. You mean to say in the 1800's when a farmer had to buy a plot of land to farm on credit, he was the ultimate cause of this? It's more those who buy "toys" they can't afford or $X200,000.00 on houses when they only make $50,000. That's called irresponsbility. Loveshack1 has it right.... those who buy on credit with "no" means to make the payments. Let's put blame where it belongs.... the greedy CEO's, trial lawyers, politicians and irresponsible people. Having a desire to attain more than what one has is not a sin, nor is trying to better one's position in life. That is the American Way.... that's why so many are fighting to get into this Country.

RE: My wife and I are not nieve....

Here I sit in our RV, fulltiming, but not moving. Waiting for better halfs final retirment day 12/27 and for the house to sell. Can't wait! Only about 68 days left and the days are really dragging. Oh, but such adventures await! Wonderful people to meat and wonderous places to see. We live in SC. So I have never seen the desert. Guess where we are going first. That's right NM. Can't wait! We have 12 grands. Then we will be visiting them on occasion. Seems like our whole life has been headed in this direction. Yes, we are retiring early, but not too early. Everything seems to be falling into place. Only waiting on the anchor to sell. Owe very little on it, the payment are low, so it really doesn't matter whether it sells or not. Heading out Jan 09 anyway. With that 'can-do' attitude you will do fine! There is a ton to see and do in NM... you will love it.

RE: Doom and Gloom!

"wealth redistribution" can only end one way..Disaster!! It probably won't take long either. The "wealth creaators" will quit, it is a scheme that depends on the voluntary help of those who are stolen from.:H You just wrote that the "whole deal was going to collapse....." How do you expect that to happen without more spreading the wealth around? Probably you will see a lot of big money leaving this country and going overseas. Redistribution of wealth has never had a pleasant smell to it. We've worked hard for what we have and if I give it away, I want it to be my choice and my choice with whom I give it to. Not some who live on government doles and feel it is against their civil rights to have to work for it. The blame for this mess lies clearly with those who feel they are running this country. They are not different than those who ran Enron, GE, the auto industry, lending industries and insurance. They are playing with Monoply Money in their minds.

RE: What's free in this World? Some things are .

I would say Junk Mail probably isn't free. The USPS probably adds their rate postage/discount to our postage fees or is in some way tied to taxes we pay for the USPS to give the mass mailers discounts. Sunshine probably won't be far behind :B I tried really hard to think of something free..... can't do it :) I'll have to keep musing on that one.

RE: What's Fair

What a poorly run CG. Camper #2 should receive some comp days. That's the problem with many CG's. The office staff is usually just money takers and do not actually 'manage' the park. I agree completely about the comp days. In reality, we probably would have moved to another site also (or found another park with better power). We always use a voltage/polarity tester before we ever plug into a post however, and this would have alerted us to the fact the post was inoperable. Plugging into another site usually leads to a potential conflict. If I had been in the MH arriving afterwards, I would have had someone in the office by the ear to get it corrected. If I have 50 amp service and pay for 50 amp service in a park, I am going to get that plug. I don't believe I would be angry with the guy who plugged into another site tho. It is a CG problem.

RE: Did you cry when your realized you were a fulltimer??

There is a lot of adventures awaiting you. You can either look back and cry or look forward to a new way of life. We never looked back, but then we were totally focused knowing what we wanted. We know where our mail is coming from, but we sure are not crying over the loss of mowing lawns, paying taxes and dumping everything we made into feeding the system (home ownership). Best of luck to you.

RE: Why aren't Canadians having a crisis?

Canada bashing seems to be one of the more popular internet sports! I really have no idea why, most Canadians are rather laid back, not given to tooting their own horn, yet for some reason, Americans delight in calling Canada a socialist country, filled with neer-do-wells, laying around waiting for the government to feed them and cure their ills! I don't think we accomplish anything by bashing our neighbors to the north or vice versa. Many people have relatives on both sides of the border and after all it's just an invisible border that separates us. I am proud to have many friends from Canada. Their system is different.... it doesn't make either completely right or completely wrong. Don't blame all Americans in this type thinking. I know many of our friends in Canada said on their first trip here they had trepidations going west because of the wild west we have. :B

RE: If bail out passes and works

Here in California, and this is a very sensitive issue, people are tired of the illegal immigration. Its draining our economy. The illegals get so many free benefits and don't contribute to the taxes or to pay for it. 11 Billion dollars a year. I'm just curious about your statement you are tired of illegal immigration.... why do you re-elect those politicians who are draining your economy and getting rich off your system? That illegal immigration buys lots of votes and the politicians are not ever going to really attempt to stop it. Why do they drive busses over to MX to pick up school kids not even citizens. Why provide extensive free medical to illegals, why must we make them citizens if they sneak over the border to have a baby. Why pay them social security and give them welfare. I guess my real question.... why do we re-elect the morons running this country in the ground. And... it's easy to spot them, their faces are always blathering away on TV.

RE: HAVE TO ASK

We're doing OK also. About a year ago we got out of the market and went into T Bills & CD's. I think the market will stabilize and things will get somewhat back to normal. We're fortunate we don't have a stick/brick chewing into our funds.

RE: Why aren't Canadians having a crisis?

Yes, and we pay 13% on everything we buy. Not really free IMO. I believe the primary reason for our financial stability is that credit is not as readily available as it was in the States. Growing up, the family moto was , "If you want something real bad, save-up for it..." You're right Rouki. Many people in this country can be easily brainwashed into believing they are getting something free when the actual price can be dear. Not just in dollars. You see, that is what most of the people allegedly 'running' this country bank on. They can promise something free and people will jump on it, never investigating to determine how much it will actually cost. I love it when they say tax the rich people and businesses more. The businesses will just pass that tax down and the rich people have tax shelters. A solid percentage for everyone would be far more fair. The problems we are having in this Country are not ours alone, it's global. I for one think we should quit paying everyone else's share in the UN and cease some of our foreign aid to other countries and get our OWN house in order.

RE: Doom and Gloom!

Times have changed! During the depression, my wifes grandfather, who was wealthy for the times, held mortgages on several local farms, of course they all fell into arrears. He did not forclose or ask for payments for five years. Slowly, mostly because of WW11, the economy improved and the farmers could again make their payments. When he, the grandfather died in the early fifties, his funeral was the largest ever seen in those parts. I wonder how many investors would do that to-day? Your wife's Grandfather was a commendable person! You wonder how many investors would do that today. NONE. I wonder how many individuals would do that. Probably none again. I am sure you are very proud of your wife's Grandfather.
